Emergency Podcast: This week we look at “athletes foot of the mind”.
“It never goes away. It’s always asked to be scratched, promising relief. To scratch, however is to cause pain, and it only intensifies the itch.” – EMB page 29.
I can’t think of a better description than this. Years of trying to describe to someone what it was like to struggle, was summed up for me 3 short sentences. It describes those same empty promises that you’ve told yourself, and probably even prayed.
“It’s the last time” “I’ll start fresh tomorrow” “If I just go finish this, it’ll go away, and I will do better next time.” Next time I’ll be stronger.” “One last time” Always finishing with “next time” or “tomorrow”, never goes away, and if you scratch it is only intensified.
