Could You Imagine Life Without God’s Word?

When I was in college I used to wake up in the middle of the night with an eery feeling of fear. I blamed it on too many scary movies as a child, but that didn’t make the fear go away. To help, I found a verse in the Bible that comforted me and gave me strength to face my fear:

When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? – Psalm 56:3-4

I still occasionally wake up with that fearful feeling, but far less often than I did back then.

But, anytime fear starts to creep into my heart I attack it with that verse… with God’s word. And the fear fades away.

Now as a mom, instead of those fearful thoughts, my mind seems to be preoccupied with how to be a good mother – how to raise boys into men who love God and others, which has me often seeking God with this verse in mind:

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5

You will often hear whispers of, “Lord, Give me wisdom” coming from my mouth. And I am consistently reminding myself and others that wisdom is one thing God PROMISES to give to those who ask… I know, because I’ve read it in His Word.

And when the questions of life, and what God has for me to do, flood my consciousness many scriptures come to mind, but the one that stands out is:

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. – Micah 6:8

As I think on these truths and how often I cling to the living and active Word of God, written on paper or computer screen for me to so easily access, I become burdened for those who don’t have the same privilege as us…

Did you know?

Today, nearly one-third of the world’s language groups representing 340 million people are still waiting for God’s Word in a language that they can clearly understand.

That’s 340 million people who don’t have a Bible in their own language to open, meditate upon, search through, and take refuge in!

Could you imagine life without God’s Word in your own language? If you didn’t have His word to comfort, guide, strengthen, and correct?

Let’s be the domino that sends God’s Word into all the world, so that people like you and me with fears, struggles, and questions can have the same access to God’s life-giving Word!

Great thoughts Michelle!  I often wonder how they managed during the days whenever they didn’t have the Bible to pick up and read and be encourage by.  I used to be awestruck by wondering “How did they make it without God’s Word?”  God revealed to me not long after that, the staggering number of people who still don’t have His Word.

His Word has become life to me.  I can’t imagine one day without it, yet there have been so many where I have taken it for granted.  Thank you for your post.

Michelle – thank you for this! It was amazing for me to discover the post you had written, and I have had no contact with you before. My name is Johanna, and I lead the OneVerse Bloggers. I was so encouraged that someone could take up this message and run with it. But I really shouldn’t be amazed, because this is a movement of God. He’s raising up people to advocate for those who are still without access to his life-giving Word. Thank you for being that domino. God bless you. -Johanna Fenton, social media coordinator for The Seed Company|OneVerse
